Time for Planting

Posted on September 15, 2020 at 5:03 PM by Krislyn Powell

As the brutal heat has begun to give way to more forgiving fall temperatures, this is an optimal time for planting across the valley! While many desert native plants are built to withstand the high temperatures, non-native and less tolerant plants thrive in our relatively mild Arizona fall. If you have been considering adding any new trees, shrubs or vegetables, fall is a great time of year to add to your landscape. Installing a plant in a new environment is typically a stressful transition, so planting in slightly cooler weather can help increase the chance of survival. The end of September to beginning of October is typically an optimal time as there is still enough warmth to help support new blooms, but no overbearing heat to harm the new plants.

Before moving ahead, be sure to consider the plant’s size, needs and aesthetic appearance to help you get the best fit. If you have questions about what is best for your landscape specifically, consult your local nursery for tailored tips!
