Design Review Process
Committee Approval
Homeowners must receive Design Review Committee (DRC) approval before beginning construction on exterior modification projects outlined in the Design Guidelines (PDF). The Modification Application can be completed online.
*Please note: Based on your browser settings, the downloadable version of the Modification Application might or might not be fillable within your browser window. If it's not, please save the file to your computer and open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Missed Items
To help with the information-gathering process, we've prepared a checklist of Commonly Missed Items (PDF). Note, this list is not all-inclusive; please see the Design Guidelines for full specifics.
Review
Once an application is received, it will undergo a precursory review. If needed information is missing, the applicant will be contacted with questions prior to the DRC meeting.
Responses
Once the DRC has reviewed the application, one of four responses will be issued by email to the address on the application within three business days.
Potential responses include:
- Approved with conditions: Applicant is cleared to proceed with the modification project, so long as listed conditions are met.
- Approved: Applicant is cleared to proceed with the modification project.
- Denied: Applicant is not cleared to proceed with the modification project. The homeowner may appeal this decision to the DRC. See Appendix A of the Design Guidelines for stipulations.
- More information required: No decision has been rendered, as more information from the applicant is required. Depending on the type and amount of information, a decision could be immediately rendered after receiving the response, or the applicant may have to wait until the next meeting.
Variance Requests
If an applicant's request does not meet the requirements of the Design Guidelines, they can request a variance to the policy by marking their application as a deviation under Item No. 1 on the form. If requesting a variance, the applicant must submit a supplemental statement of hardship detailing why they are unable to fulfill the requirements of the Design Guidelines.
